Antonio Tajani, EP President will be a keynote speaker of the EPP Group in the Committee of the Regions seminar “Cities and regions developing a territorial-based trans-European transport network” organized in Brindisi, Italy this Friday (16 June).
The event co-hosted by Mauro D’Attis, EPP-CoR Group Vice President is to gather over 60 local and regional representatives from across the European Union, Members of the EPP Group in the European Committee of the Regions, as well as ministers, mayors and many more transport policy specialists and stakeholders.
‘Transport is a major contributor to a prosperous EU economy. It generates trade, fosters economic growth and provides millions of jobs in the European regions and cities. The EU’s territorial-based TEN-T policy not only ensures accessibility and connectivity for all regions of the Union, but contributes further to their long-term competitiveness and perspectives’ – underlines EPP-CoR Group President Michael Schneider, who will open the proceedings along Mr D’Attis and Santi Giuffrè, Brindisi’s municipal Commissioner.
Conference is to be divided into two key sessions: one related to discussion on the European Transport strategy in support of development and job creation and a second one to the presentation of best practice or investments and European support to regional and local authorities.

‘Europe’s regions and cities believe that territorial-based TEN-T policy goals can be achieved by proper application of the principles of a bottom-up, multilevel governance approach and subsidiarity, by engaging all levels of governance to work in partnership‘ – stresses further EPP-CoR Group Vice President and event’s host Mauro D’Attis – ‘we need to better include local and regional authorities, which are in many cases responsible for the maintenance of transport infrastructure, in the political, operational, technical and implementing management bodies of the TEN-T infrastructure projects‘.
